English Heritage Buildings project is Highly Commended in Sussex Heritage Trust Awards 2017
English Woodlands Burrow Nursery, Cross in Hand, East Sussex – a project submitted by English Heritage Buildings – has scooped Highly Commended in the Commercial category. Each year, the awards attract countless entries that push the boundaries of quality and innovation. This year was no exception.
The brief for English Heritage was to replace the existing customer service office building with a contemporary workplace. They required the building to reflect the personality of the company and to meet its growing needs.
The final design created a much more spacious interior for the office. Using Green Oak as the structural frame, the design team were able to open up the internal areas. The benefits of Green Oak extend far beyond aesthetics. The inherent durability of Green Oak makes it one of the most innovative materials to build with. It is designed to last generations hardening with age and exposure to water.
Well executed build
Commenting on the new building, the judges praised the entry as “a simple design, well executed in a delightful working environment. An impressive modern building constructed from oak and slate”.
English Heritage Buildings’ Managing Director, Darren Hook, comments: “We’re incredibly pleased to have won such an award and to know that we’ve met the client’s brief to their exact standards. We’re even more proud of this achievement as this now means two of our buildings within half a mile of one another are award-winners! Wealden House, now retail premises, secured recognition for its level of quality and craftsmanship.”
Clive Piper, Project Designer for English Heritage Buildings, adds: “I find it very rewarding when I get to see a completed project. Even more so when a building receives an award. It makes the lengthy process of managing the client’s account feel like a great success.”
